Description
Fisherbrand AS-4052 Polystyrene Petri Dish – 60 x 15 mm, Non-Vented, Sterile
The Fisherbrand AS-4052 is a specialized 60 x 15 mm Petri dish manufactured from premium, virgin optical-grade polystyrene. Designed for microbiological and botanical applications where precise moisture control is required, this sterile dish features a Non-Vented lid and a Ringless (Slippable) profile. Unlike standard vented dishes that allow continuous airflow, the non-vented lid tightly seats against the base, severely restricting gas exchange to prevent agar desiccation during extended incubation periods. Furthermore, the absence of a top stacking ring allows the dishes to slide smoothly against one another, making them highly compatible with automated plate-pouring machines and robotic plate readers.
Technical Performance and Design
-
Non-Vented Lid: Lacks the internal ventilation ribs found in standard dishes. This creates a tighter seal, drastically reducing moisture loss and preventing the agar from drying out, cracking, or pulling away from the dish walls over long incubations.
-
Slippable / Ringless Profile: Manufactured without a traditional elevated stacking ring. This completely flat design prevents dishes from interlocking or catching, which is a mandatory requirement for automated stackers that rely on sliding dishes horizontally.
-
Virgin Polystyrene Construction: Provides glass-like optical clarity, ensuring distortion-free visual inspection, accurate colony counting, and full compatibility with automated imaging systems.
-
Sterile Manufacturing: Produced in state-of-the-art cleanroom facilities and sterilized, ensuring a completely bio-burden-free environment for sensitive culture work right out of the sleeve.

Key Benefits & Applications
-
Extended Incubations: The restricted airflow makes this the ideal dish for slow-growing fungal cultures, anaerobic bacteria, and plant tissue culture where maintaining high internal humidity is critical.
-
Automated Workflows: The smooth, ringless top prevents mechanical jamming when plates are processed through high-throughput automated media fillers or robotic incubators.
-
Space Optimization: The compact 60 mm footprint allows researchers to maximize limited incubator or anaerobic chamber space when isolating rare colonies or performing small-scale susceptibility testing.
-
Anaerobic Compatibility: Often used in conjunction with anaerobic jars or pouches, as the tight lid minimizes the rapid re-introduction of oxygen when temporarily removed from the chamber for inspection.
