Ammonium Carbonate, Chips, Purified is a white, ammoniacal, solid salt that degrades to gaseous ammonia and carbon dioxide upon heating. It is used as a pH adjuster, smelling salt, in cooking as a leavening agent, in medicine to relieve symptoms of bronchitis and as an emetic. The Purified Grade describes chemicals of good quality where there are no official standards and is normally limited to inorganic chemicals.
