The Chemglass CG-1758-01 is a specialized solvent addition funnel specifically designed for flash chromatography. This chemglass funnel features a closed-end stem with a series of small perforated holes along the side. Its unique design allows for the gentle addition of solvents to a chromatography column without disturbing the delicate silica gel or packing layer, which is critical for maintaining sharp separations. In flash chromatography, adding solvent too quickly or directly onto the top of the column can “crater” the silica gel, leading to uneven solvent flow and poor sample resolution. The Chemglass CG-1758-01 solves this by forcing the solvent to exit through the sides of the stem, allowing it to flow gently down the walls of the column.
