Formaldehyde, 10 Percent (v/v) Solution, Unbuffered, is commonly known as formol and is the simplest aldehyde. At room temperature it is a gas and is otherwise a colorless liquid that has a strong pungent smell. It has many uses including use as an embalming and tissue fixative as well as a nail hardener and in nail polish.
